Former Ben-Gal, Fashion Model and now Actress, Carla ('01-'02) plays the role of "Michelle" in the musical, Dreamgirls. "Michelle" is the newest member of "The Dreams". She replaces Effie, after Effie gets kicked out of the group. There's even a little cat fight during this scene between the two!
Also assisting in this production behind the scenes is local makeup artist, Chenese Bean. Chenese is the makeup artist for the lead actresses. Chenese was the same makeup artist who assisted on the 2006 Cincinnati Ben-Gals Swimsuit Calendar released just over a month ago!
Dreamgirls is an award-winning Broadway musical, which opened on December 20, 1981 at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway and ran for 1522 performances. The musical follows the story of a black all-girl singing trio from Chicago called "The Dreams", who become music superstars. It was directed by Michael Bennett, produced by Bennett, Bob Avian, and Geffen Records, and choreographed by Bennett and Michael Peters. The original Broadway production, which won six Tony Awards, starred Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Loretta Devine, Ben Harney, Cleavant Derricks, and Obba Babatunde.
Following a 60’s girl group a la “The Supremes” through their rise to stardom, Dreamgirls shows the backstage drama behind fame and fortune. With a score rooted in pop, rock, R&B and disco, every song will become a favorite. See it on the stage before it hits the big screen this December, in a major motion picture starring Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy.
